I was tagged by the lovely BrownEyed Girl to tell my readership seven interesting things about me. Um...I'm not so sure I can do this one. There's always a lot to tell about me, but I'm not so sure it's interesting. So, here goes!!!
- I am missing a vertebrae in my back. This means I have one leg that is longer than the other, basically making me a bit lopsided. :) You can't tell by looking at me, but my chiropractor knows! I generally stand with all my weight on my left leg, because it's the shorter one of the two, and my right leg kicked out a little bit. That seems to take up the slack.
- I don't have any wisdom teeth. (Please, no comments from the peanut gallery!) For whatever reason, I just never grew any. Which, yay!, because I never had to have them pulled. My orthodonist discovered this when he removed my braces and took x-rays of my teeth. There should've been at least a shadow of them on my x-ray but nothing was there.
- I once lived in an apartment where a double murder had taken place. (Prior to me living there, of course!) I had just finished my student teaching internship (I went to Michigan State and they have you student teach for a full year.) and figured I would be moving back to my hometown area. I didn't renew the lease on my apartment and then I got a job in the district where I did my student teaching. Oops. It's kind of hard to find an apartment in a college town in June. I ran around like a crazy woman trying to rent a place, but didn't have much luck. Finally, I went back to my initial apartment complex just to see if they had anything. "Why, yes, we do! Do you mind being on the first floor?" Heck no, that's what I prefer. "Do you like looking out over the wooded area?" Yes, it's way better than looking out on the parking lot! "How squeamish are you?" Well, it depends-do I have to perform or watch surgeries?? "Not exactly..." The leasing agent went on to tell me they had a lovely first floor apartment...the one where the murder had taken place. They would give me a good deal on the rent, I'd have all new carpet, etc...etc...etc... So I took it! :) The area in which I was living was actually quite safe. Unfortunately for the people who lived there prior to me (the victims, if you will), they witnessed a drug deal gone bad and were going to testify against the gang members they saw involved in the crime. So the gang took care of the problem. Luckily, the offending parties not only got convicted on the drug charges, but they also went down for the murders as well.
- I am very good at picking things up with my toes. I don't know why, but I am. :)
- My sister's two boys, my nephews, call me Uncle Lyssa. I am sure my niece will, too, when she starts talking. I used to be Auntie Lyssa, but then they met Uncle Scott. (Who actually gets called Uncle Fungus, thanks to the movie Ice Age. But that's more about him and not really about me...) At any rate, they adore Uncle Scott. He's fun, he's patient, he's silly, and they always, always want to play with him. Once they met him, I went from Auntie Lyssa to Uncle Lyssa. Go figure. :) My favorite is when we're walking around the stores and they come running up to me shouting "UNCLE LYSSA!" Needless to say, that gets some strange looks from people.
- I speak French pretty well and I know a wee bit of Spanish, German, and Japanese. (I have a French minor and, as a result, ended up teaching a 10-week elective class called World Languages. It was an introduction to French, Spanish, German, and Japanese. Let's just say I did the best with the French.)
- I once took a group of 15 high school students to Spain, France, and England for a two-week trip. The trip was awesome and I really liked the kids. It was stressful, don't get me wrong. You worry about losing someone, someone getting injured, someone dying, etc... But it was worth every moment of stress when I took the kids up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night and saw the looks on their faces.
So, there's a little something about me. :) Now I think I shall tag Becoming a Different Person, Io, Beagle, and Bec. Looking forward to hearing more about you, ladies!
